New FAQ questions:
Can Paladins upgrade their Flaming Sword? Should they follow mundane or magical gadget rules? Yes, Flaming Swords may be upgraded just as any other gadget. This is done by adding gadget stunts to the Flaming Sword stunt. Flaming Sword gadgets are not limited to 3 stunts as other gadgets can be, but neither are affected by stunts which alter gadget creation rules, such as the Improve Gadget stunt which allows one instance of Gadget to provide four improvements.
Obviously, the downside is, if you use it to kill someone indiscriminately, or otherwise act dishonorably, you lose it. And it's required for many other Paladin powers, which means that losing the stunt through dishonor means you lose ALL use of Paladin stunts. You can gain them back by acting honorably; none of this "act of contrition" BS.
What are the Gadget improvements currently available? In addition to those found in the Main Rules and the Ave Nova Roma Magic system, you might also have:
Spell Armed: Like armed, but specifically for use with damage spells. This improvement may only be used with wands, staves, or other items with the Alternate Use (Spells) improvement. This is a ritual-only effect.
Rendered: Requires Rugged. The item is now indestructible.
As with all improvements, make sure you have Narrator approval before you take them; Narrator approval does not include "a temporary yes while the Narrator is running another scene or character creation." Gadgets are powerful items that can do amazing things; some of these are outside the power level or theme of the game.
Currently, only three gadget stunts are allowed to be tied to a particular gadget.
Can I have a gadget stunt that does [this insane effect]? No, but you just gave us an idea for our next NPC featured creature!
Seriously, if you find a 1 gadget stunt that has what seems to be an overpowered effect, expect there to be a serious down-side or curse. Curse items cannot be removed from a character or vaulted, and are almost always plot items. You have been warned.
